Chicago Bears Mock Draft 5.0: Not sexy, but worth it
By Ryan Heckman
Round 3, Pick 87
So, let me get this straight. The Bears don’t start picking until late in the third round, and you’re telling me they’re going to draft an offensive lineman?

I don’t have a crystal ball, but if Connor McGovern is available, he’s coming to Chicago.
The Bears are set with their starting five up front, right now. There aren’t many question marks on the outside, but on the inside is where things get interesting. Kyle Long is still a Bear, but his body hasn’t held up well over the last few seasons. Cody Whitehair and James Daniels could be switching positions, which will offer an interesting wrinkle in offseason activities.
McGovern, like Whitehair and Daniels, is a guy who has played both center and guard. He’s versatile enough to offer the Bears depth at both positions — a lot like Bradley Sowell, except better.
The best part of McGovern’s game is his run blocking. He’s as strong as an ox in that area, and works well to hold his blocks without being caught out of position for a penalty. His initial punch is a strong suit and he plays well in a zone scheme. There isn’t a lot not to like about the guy.
The one area he’s been said to need improvement is in his pass sets, but he’s not necessarily “bad” in that respect. He’s incredible in the run game, and above average in the passing game.
