Chicago Bears 2019 NFL Mock Draft 4.0: Sticking to the plan
By Ryan Heckman
Round 7, Pick 238
If I can get a world-class athlete in the seventh round, most times, I’ll take it. Will Harris is a perfect example of such a player. Putting a pure athlete in the hands of an expert like Pagano, who is known for his prowess with defensive backs, is always a good decision.
Harris did himself a lot of favors at the Combine this year, running a strong 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds and leaping to a 36.5-inch vertical jump. Toss in a 123.0-inch broad jump and a 6.91-second 3-cone drill, and Harris did enough to catch my attention. His size at 6-foot-2 is tough to ignore as well.
Most places have Harris graded as a seventh-round pick or a top-tier undrafted option. With the Bears adding Pagano, though, Harris’ potential under that kind of coaching makes him tough to pass on.
Harris is great towards the line of scrimmage and is a willing run defender. He sees the field well and doesn’t get fooled often in coverage. The place he needs work is his decision-making. Instincts aren’t where they should be, but he’s an intelligent football player. With the right coaching, Harris could accelerate his decisions just a hair and be twice the player.
