Chicago Bears 2019 NFL Mock Draft 4.0: Sticking to the plan
By Ryan Heckman
Round 7, Pick 222
Some say Blace Brown is a risk due to tearing his ACL prior to his senior season, although he did come back in time to suit up for the year. His most impressive football came before his injury, which is somewhat concerning. But, he’s put enough strong play on tape that he should warrant a late-round pick.
Between 2016 and 2017, Brown totaled 11 interceptions in 22 games, scoring on one of them. He also notched 10 pass breakups between those two seasons. At 6-feet, he has the ideal size to play corner in the NFL, but some scouts won’t like his lack of speed.
One of the best things about Brown is that he knows his limitations. He’s not the fastest guy at the position, and that’s fine. What he does to make up for that is key. His vision and anticipation is next-level. Brown keeps his attention balanced between both the quarterback and his man. Many college corners struggle with this as they transition to the NFL. It can be one of the toughest parts of playing cornerback, and Brown is already great at it.
Chicago may be one of the perfect situations out there for Brown, because of new defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano. Should Brown come to the Bears, he’d be in great hands under the teaching of Pagano.
