Round 3, Pick 87

Michael Deiter. 3. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 57. OL. Wisconsin

One of the most impressive offensive linemen in this year’s draft class is also one the Bears may be able to snag in the third round. Depending on which outlet you trust, Michael Deiter is anywhere from a late second rounder to an early fourth rounder. The bottom line is, though, the kid can play.

Deiter is incredibly polished, coming from a school where offensive linemen tend to turn out as strong professionals. Many say that if you want to go pro as an offensive linemen, Wisconsin is one of the best schools you can attend. Elite talent seems to stem from the Badgers’ program year-in and year-out.

One thing offensive line coach Harry Heistand has to love about Deiter is his experience playing every position up front. Over his four years at Wisconsin, Deiter started multiple games at tackle, guard and center — talk about versatility.

The Badgers run a pro-style run game, for the most part, and Deiter has been a big part of their success. He’s got an enormous upper body that’s tough for defensive linemen to deal with. Deiter is a physical guy who brings it every down. He has a quick, strong initial blow off the line and knows how to finish blocks.

If he is there at no. 87 overall, Deiter is most certainly the best player on the Bears’ board and will be suiting up in navy and orange come the fall.
