1. Matthews and Kane Trade Goals
When something that happens in a home opener is the number one most memorable moment in a season, you know it was special. The Blackhawks opened their home schedule with a Sunday night game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Everybody was expecting some offense with all the firepower that these two teams have.
This was not only the best moment of the Blackhawks season, but it was also one of the best moments of the entire NHL season. This scene went viral for a variety of reasons. Everyone in the hockey world will remember the end of this game for a very long time. It will be years before we see another ending to a game like this.
The Leafs were winning 5-4 with under two minutes left, and Patrick Kane tied it with the goalie pulled with only 1:24 left in regulation. Then the madness continued. Auston Matthews came down the ice on the next shift and scored to give the Leafs the lead again. When he scored he put his hand by his ear and gave the crowd a little bit of a taunt. Then, Patrick Kane scored yet again with the goalie pulled and got the game tied. He gave the hand at the ear celebration right back at the Maple Leafs as Matthews gave a little smirk.
It was one of the most entertaining sequences ever between to great American born players. Morgan Rielly eventually won it in overtime for Toronto. It was by far the most entertaining game of the season and one that most of us will remember forever. They literally traded goals and celebrations and really gave fans of both teams a reason to laugh and smile. It is the entertainment business, after all. Nothing lived up to the craziness of those final minutes all season long. You can go full games without three goals, this one had three in the final two minutes.
