Chicago Blackhawks: Top 5 moments of the 2018-19 season
3. Huge Win Over Washington
On January 20th, 2019 it looked like the Blackhawks were destined to be one of the worst teams in the NHL and have a way better chance at the lottery than the playoffs. They had lost five games in a row and seven of their last eight. It was bleak and looked like there was no way they’d ever even come close to the playoffs. And to make it worse, the defending Stanley Cup Champions came to Chicago to try and make it look even bleaker.
This is the moment where the Blackhawks put their big boy pants on and played as good of a game as they had in a very long time. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane literally put this team on their back and carried them to victory. They each had five points in this one. Toews had a hat trick and added in another two assists and Kane scored twice himself and had three assists. An all-around amazing game for both of them. When your stars are your stars you have a chance to win the game.
This game lit a fire under every player and coach on this team. This game was the first of a seven-game winning streak and a stretch of ten games out of twelve with a win. An incredible stretch that got the team believing once again. They fell short as you know, but this game against Washington made the season more fun and certainly impacted the future of the franchise in a positive way. Maybe if they lose this game they don’t go on a run and some bigger changes are made.
Toews and Kane also continued to roll as the season went along and both set career highs in points. A game like this should stick out in fans minds for a long time. It was definitely a top moment in 2018-19.
