5. Winter Classic

The calendar year of 2019 started off with a bang for the Chicago Blackhawks. This is a game that ended in a loss but it is impossible not to include an iconic scene in the Winter Classic on the list. In South Bend at Notre Dame Stadium, the Blackhawks played host to the Boston Bruins. The two teams played an incredible game in front of a huge crowd on national television.

The fact that these two original six teams got to play at the iconic campus that is Notre Dame was something all hockey fans will never forget. The Blackhawks are probably hoping that they are done with the outdoor games for a while because they haven’t performed very well in them. This is especially surprising because, during the entire life of the Winter Classic, the Blackhawks were one of the elite teams in the NHL. That is why they kept being selected to play in them. That and Chicago has become a great hockey market and every fan should be proud of that fact.

The game was memorable just because of how awesome it was. The Blackhawks also played really well in the game overall. They outshot the Bruins 38 to 36 and led late in the second period. Patrice Bergeron of Boston scored to tie it late in the second before Sean Kuraly scored the game-winner at 10:20 of the third period. With the Bruins being a true Stanley Cup contender and the Blackhawks looking to find their way back, it was a good step forward.

They lost the game but it seemed to give them a bit of confidence going into the second half of the season. Not to mention the fact that Boston and Chicago were both given very nice sweaters to wear for the game. Both teams looked incredible and it was truly an amazing scene. Especially for those of us who were able to attend. The Winter Classic is must-see TV for hockey fans and the Blackhawks got to be a part of it once again. What a time.
