Home Stand Continues

The White Sox welcome in another red hot team to Chicago in their next series. A three-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays. They had a 90 win season in 2018 and still missed the playoffs because of the fact that they play in a division with Boston and New York. They are hoping for another legit season that ends in the playoffs.

They are currently 7-3 and are going to throw their reigning Cy Young winning pitcher Blake Snell in game one. He will face Carlos Rodon on Monday afternoon. This could be the most difficult of all the matchups so far. Rodon has been great to start the season but Snell might be hard to hit. The White Sox were able to dominate Corey Kluber in Cleveland so we will see how it goes.

Game two is the weird game for the White Sox. The Rays have Charlie Morton as the probable starter for the Tuesday game, but the White Sox don’t have a scheduled starter. They have not used a fifth starter yet this season and this is the type of game they would need one. Reynaldo Lopez usually goes after Rodon but the home opener being pushed back a day changed everything. Now they have to decide who will get the start.

Lopez will start the series finale on Wednesday against Tampa Bay’s Tyler Glasnow. Lopez had a very okay game against the Mariners. The team got the win but he didn’t get credit for it. It would be ideal for this to be the first real quality start of the season for Lopez.

Overall, the Tampa Bay Rays present another tough challenge for the White Sox. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing as the young guys will gain valuable experience playing against good teams and players. Facing a former Cy Young winner in back to back series could be good for guys like Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, and Tim Anderson.

This is going to be a tough series for the White Sox but it will be interesting to see how they handle it. They have the advantage of playing at home in this one and they are all day games. The day game part is something that is concerning because some people believe that lots of day games is a disadvantage but it is the same setting for both teams. Look for the White Sox to put their best foot forward against Tampa after an up and down start.
