Negatives

The Chicago White Sox had some negatives in this series to put it nicely. They are going to have that said about them from time to time and that is okay. This is a young maturing team that will have plenty of ups and downs. They have a long way to go before they are considered one of the truly elite teams in Major League Baseball so these issues need to be fixed soon.

The biggest negative in this series was the pitching. The White Sox have only used four starters so far in Carlos Rodon, Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Ivan Nova. Only Rodon hasn’t had one terrible game out of two starts. The starters are going to need to straighten out a bit if they want to win games. The Sox can score runs but it is hard to keep up with bad pitching.

The bullpen hasn’t been much better. It is hard to have a rally knowing that your bullpen might ruin it for you anyway. They were advertised as a better bullpen than last year, but it could be true that that isn’t saying much because it was terrible in 2018. They need to figure it out and lock down some games for this offense.

Pitching always takes time when guys are young and this is a young rebuilding team looking to grow, so it is hard to get really mad at the growing pains. It is hard to get really mad at something that is still in development like that. The thing that is easy to get mad about is the errors the White Sox have been committing. They are tied with the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees for third in the majors with nine errors. That only trails the Mariners and the Chicago Cubs for the most. The errors need to stop if they want to win. Errors are extra runs or outs for teams. That is correctable in the immediate future by just relying on fundamentals.
