Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Round 3 best case scenario
By Ryan Heckman
Safety Darnell Savage, Maryland
For the last several months, Darnell Savage has been one of my absolute favorite players in this entire draft. The curious thing about Savage is, though, he’s mocked as high as the late first round and on down to the third round. If he’s there at no. 87, he’s a no-brainer.

Savage is one of the faster defensive backs in this draft, and at the safety position, he’s fun to watch. He is constantly moving, making sure he stays with his man. As a safety, he is strong in coverage and could even double as a slot defender if need be.
It would be a luxury for the Bears to snag Savage in the third. His upside is tremendous. With a year sitting behind Eddie Jackson and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and under the direction of Chuck Pagano, a known defensive back guru, Savage could be ready to make an impact in 2020. Clinton-Dix is most likely a one-year rental for the Bears, therefore Savage would be licking his chops at the thought of a starting spot in the future.
Last season, Savage posted 52 tackles with 5.5 for loss, four picks, two passes defensed and a defensive score. Right now, NFL.com’s analyst Lance Zeirlien has Savage as a Day 2 prospect, so there is a chance he could be available for the Bears.
