Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Round 3 best case scenario
By Ryan Heckman
Tight End Jace Sternberger, Texas A&M
One of the most tantalizing prospects who could end up falling to the Bears at no. 87 is also one of the better tight ends in this year’s class. While Noah Fant, Irv Smith and T.J. Hockenson get most of the attention out of the group, Jace Sternberger is no slouch.
The Texas A&M product finally got a chance to show his stuff at the FBS level last year after transferring to the Aggies, and boy did he take advantage. Sternberger led his offense with 48 receptions for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns. For those counting, that’s an average of 17.3 yards per reception.
While he won’t impress you as a blocker, Sternberger will absolutely intrigue head coaches with his ability to get up and down the field. He may as well be a larger wide receiver with the way he runs his routes. Sternberger possesses great footwork to get in and out of his cuts, and is a mismatch with most linebackers.
He has sticky hands and a nose for the end zone, while being able to line up just about anywhere. Sternberger could be split out wide or in the slot, which would give Matt Nagy a lot to work with within his creative playbook.
