Chicago Bears: Running Backs to know for the 2019 NFL Draft
By Usayd Koshul
7. Elijah Holyfield, Georgia
After two quiet years at Georgia, Elijah Holyfield broke out in 2018 with 1018 rush yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 6.4 yards per carry. While some would argue that he’s best off returning to school for one more year, Holyfield is banking on his strong 2018 season as a way for him to make a name for himself in the NFL in 2019.
Holyfield is a running back who won’t bring tons of speed to an offense, but he is the type of player, where late in games, can chew the clock and grind a defense down. He’s also solid in pass protection, showing excellent technique.
One of Holyfield’s most underrated traits might just be his vision. Often times in 2018, he was able to draw defenders in one direction, before cutting back in the opposite direction. At the NFL level, this is what will make him a valuable asset to many teams.
One area of concern for Holyfield is his receiving skills. At Georgia, he only had seven receptions over a three-year period. Although this doesn’t necessarily break his NFL Draft Stock, it’s fair to wonder why he received such a limited number of touches.
Overall, looking at Holyfield’s skillset, he’s more of a one-dimensional runner but has the ability to make plays outside the hash marks as well. He’s someone that will need to work on his receiving skills to have a regular role on an NFL team.
