Chicago White Sox: Predictions for the 2019 Season
Leaders Behind the Plate
The Chicago White Sox are hoping that their offense is significantly better this season than it was last season. They had a few surprises like good production for Daniel Palka and Yolmer Sanchez. These are the types of players you might want as depth hitting on a really good roster. Palka led the White Sox with 27 home runs last season and that is a really nice number for him. It would be even better if that was the third or fourth-most on the team instead of first.
Leader in Home Runs
The White Sox seem to have a few guys who could end up with this title by the end of the year. As mentioned before, the 27 home runs that Palka hit led the team. This year it might take more than that to be the home run leader. I believe Jose Abreu is the most reliable hitter on the team and an injury-plagued/down year led to him only hitting 22 bombs. That is the lowest total in his career. He only played in 128 games which was also a career low. This year, expect Abreu to be healthy and motivated and find himself leading the White Sox with 30-to-35 home runs.
Leader in Runs Batted In (RBIs)
As a team, nobody reached the 80 RBI plateau in 2018. Hopefully, that changes this year as they should hope to win more games. I see them having three guys reaching that 80 RBI mark. They will come from Jose Abreu, of course, and breakout seasons from Yoan Moncada and the rookie Eloy Jimenez. Even if Moncada and Jimenez reach that potential in 2019 I still expect Abreu to lead the team in RBIs with 100-to-110.
Leader in Batting Average
The White Sox are a team that is trying to grow from the bottom up. They traded away a lot of pieces all over the field. To what should be no surprise, Jose Abreu led in batting average in 2018. He has been the White Sox most consistent hitter basically since he arrived on the scene in 2014. With all of that said, I am expecting Eloy Jiminez to come in and make a major impact in his rookie year. He will lead the White Sox in batting average with anywhere from .279 to .300. Also, expect a major upgrade in Yoan Moncada and Tim Anderson‘s average and more of the same from Abreu.
