Chicago Bulls: One draft prospect from each Sweet Sixteen team
Purdue Boilermakers: Carsen Edwards
You can never have too much shooting in the NBA. The Bulls know that. That’s why, when the second round of the NBA draft rolls along, the Bulls should be looking for nothing other than shooting.
On the Purdue Boilermakers, who have been putting on an absolute shooting exhibition in the first two games of the tournament, their top player might just be the best shooter in the entire draft.
Carsen Edwards, the Boilermakers’ superstar junior guard, had been mired in a big shooting slump throughout the last month of the season, before exploding for 42 (!!) points in the second round, knocking off the reigning National Champion Villanova Wildcats.
Edwards was the preseason pick to win the National Player of the Year, and while he still averaged over 20 points per game, his slump was bad enough to knock him out of contention. He is still a gifted scorer nonetheless, and his ability to score from any point of the floor, and shoot his team to big wins is something that the Bulls should take seriously when considering him in the second round.
The Bulls have a serious lack of a pure scorer of the bench, but Edwards can give them just that immediately out of the gates. His scoring needs no development, and if the Bulls are looking for an immediate, win-now type of player, then Edwards should be their number one target if the Junior does indeed decide to declare for the draft one year early.
Edwards’ star potential despite being a second-round prospect is astounding, and the Bulls could use a home run hit on a second round pick.
