The Bears have met with and done their homework on a lot of running backs in this draft. Recently, Matt Nagy worked out Ohio State running back Mike Weber. If history has taught us anything, it’s the guys you hear about most that the Bears will end up passing on. But, it’s worth noting he was worked out by the team.
As a later round steal, I actually like Weber’s fit with the team. He could end up being a strong value, should he fall to the later rounds.
Weber has a nice combination of speed and strength. He’s that ideal early-down back in a split back field. Coming out of Ohio State, it’s kind of tough to project Weber as a stud in the pros based on production. He’s coming from a strong offense featuring many notable names and draft prospects this year, but at a program like Ohio State, you know he’s a winner. He does what it takes to make plays and win games, and that’s a program you like drafting from.
In Weber, you’re getting a guy who is very good at just about everything. He’s not an elite prospect, but he’s strong in just about every category. He checks a lot of boxes. In an offense like Chicago’s, being able to possess above average vision, pile-moving strength and the ability to catch the football is all you can ask for.
