Chicago Bears: 2019 NFL Draft Prospect Big Board
By Ryan Heckman
14. Offensive Tackle Chuma Edoga, USC
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 308 pounds
40-yard dash: 5.19 seconds
Bench Press: 21 reps
Chuma Edoga is the perfect example of a developmental project the Bears could afford to groom for the future. He has a ton to like, right off the bat, though. Edoga is one of the more fluid run blockers in this draft class. He is very quick for his size, and his footwork is excellent.
Looking at him at the Combine this year, it is tough to ignore how uneven his frame is. Sure, he’s quick-footed, but that’s due to the obvious fact that his legs are much thinner than you’d like to see at the offensive tackle position. His upper body, while bigger than his lower body, still needs to add some strength as well.
If Edoga can add some muscle to his frame overall, while polishing his pass protection, he would be a strong fit a few years down the road. Even as a backup, he could add a lot of value to the Bears. Because he is quick, Edoga would fit in well within Matt Nagy’s scheme which features a lot of movement. He just needs to work on adding a bit more bulk, and he’ll get there.
