Chicago Bears: 2019 NFL Draft Prospect Big Board
By Ryan Heckman
5. Running Back David Montgomery, Iowa State
Height: 5-foot-10
Weight: 222 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.63 seconds
Bench Press: 15 reps
Vertical Jump: 28.5 inches
While there are much better athletes in this year’s running back class, few are as well-rounded as David Montgomery coming out of Iowa State. Just looking at his size, you know the Bears would have a guy they could depend on between the tackles on those short distance downs.

Montgomery is one of the easier backs to fall in love with this year, simply because he does a lot of things well. He is a patient runner who carries the ball with strong vision.
Oh, allow me to also mention that he was a quarterback in high school — trick play, anyone?
Montgomery is one of those backs who continuously gains yards rather than losing them. He is smart, knowing which blockers to follow and seeing lanes open before they even do so. His style reminds me a lot of a former Bears back, Matt Forte.
At the moment, Montgomery projects anywhere from the second to fourth rounds. If the Bears saw him as the best available back in the third round, he may be worth snagging at that point.
