Kendall Blanton, Missouri

One of the most intriguing tight ends, when looking at the Bears’ offensive scheme, is Kendall Blanton out of Missouri. He has the size and speed on tape, but his combine numbers didn’t show those attributes off as well as he would have hoped. His combine performance may end up hurting his draft stock, but that would be a good thing for the Bears, who will be looking for late-round steals.

Blanton has experience lining up all over the place, whether it’s as an H-back, in the slot or outside. This reminds me a lot of the type of player Trey Burton is, and Blanton may be able to be used in a similar manner. He’d be a strong trick play candidate.

Playing both football and basketball in high school, Blanton is an excellent athlete overall. He was a shot-blocking phenom on the basketball court, giving him quite the advantage when high-pointing the football as well.

Like many college tight ends, Blanton’s stat sheet won’t blow you away. His film is what fans will want to watch and study the most. This is something to keep in mind with the majority of college tight ends. Unless you’re one of the top prospects in the draft, teams are looking hard at tape and the potential of what you can offer them specifically. Blanton is a perfect example of one of those guys. His potential within the Bears’ system is incredible.
