Chicago Bulls: Big Ten players to watch in 2019 NCAA Tournament
By Ryan Heckman
Guard Carsen Edwards, Purdue
One of the players to ignite such a successful season for the Purdue Boilermakers this year is guard Carsen Edwards. The team continues to feed off of his success and will go as he goes, many times.
The Bulls will likely overhaul the point guard position this offseason, moving on from Kris Dunn. That’s the assumption from many fans, at least. Edwards wouldn’t be “the” guy to come in and snatch the starting position, but he has potential to be a solid backup as a pro.
You’ll likely find Edwards projected anywhere from the very back of the first round, all the way to the middle of the second.
Edwards is considered a score-first guard who is a volume shooter. Looking at his line from this season, he averaged a stout 23.0 points per game. But, those 23.0 points came on the heels of 10 three-point attempts per game and 38.5 percent shooting overall.
At times, Edwards feels as though he has to be the one to put his team on his back, which is actually an admirable trait to have, if used correctly. He’s a streaky shooter and, when he’s on, he’s on. Edwards is an above-average defender as well, averaging 1.4 steals per contest this season.
Purdue kicks off their tournament late Thursday night in Hartford, CT as they take on Old Dominion in a 3-seed vs. 14-seed matchup.
