Chicago Bears Free Agency: Bargain edge rushers still available
By Ryan Heckman
Nick Perry
Recently-released Nick Perry is yet another veteran who could come across the division, like both Adrian Amos and Clinton-Dix (kind of) have done. Perry is a former first-round pick out of USC and is still only 28 years old.
His release was somewhat shocking to fans and analysts, but it appears the Packers were trying to save some cash with this move. Perry is only two years removed from a 7-sack season and three years removed from an 11-sack season. To have an opportunity to play his former team twice in a season should be plenty attractive to a guy like Perry.
The only issue with Perry’s situation is that he may still get starter’s money elsewhere. The edge rusher market is declining by the day, but Perry is the one guy here that I could see signing with another team and start immediately.
Like Clinton-Dix, though, he could see the potential of this defense and be drawn to the unique culture in the locker room. Should he want a shot at winning a ring — something his former team did just the year before he was drafted — then Chicago should be atop his wish list.
