Chicago Bears: Overlooked, intriguing free agents still available
By Ryan Heckman
Outside Linebacker Shane Ray
The Denver Broncos seemed to have somewhat of an embarrassment of riches at the edge rusher position last year. As we speak, free agent Shaquil Barrett has agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Broncos can afford to let both he and Shane Ray leave via free agency since they boast a tandem featuring Von Miller and Bradley Chubb.

The outside linebacker market still looks pretty wide open at this point, with Justin Houston still not having been signed as I write this. Other guys like Derrick Morgan, Nick Perry and even Chicago’s own free agent Aaron Lynch still have yet to sign.
If the Bears were to get a guy like Ray on a cheap deal, the upside is phenomenal. Most of his career has been riddled with injuries, but if healthy and surrounded by elite talent, Ray could most definitely become a contributing piece of the puzzle on this defense.
In 49 career games, Ray has compiled 14.0 sacks and 33 quarterback hits. Even as a replacement for Lynch and a rotational rusher, Ray would be a strong add in my opinion. He is still only 25 years old and a former first-round pick. Once again, if the price is right, you can’t go wrong here.
