4. RB Spencer Ware

The Bears may have just added Mike Davis, however, using a running back by committee approach is what could be best for the Bears. At the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Matt Nagy admitted that the Bears offense isn’t one where a single running back is going to get 20 carries a game.

What makes Spencer Ware a prime candidate to still be signed by the Bears is his familiarity with Matt Nagy. The two spent multiple years together in Kansas City which led to Ware playing in the same offense that the Bears currently run. Earlier in the offseason, the Bears were rumored to be pursuing another former Chiefs running back mainly due to knowing Matt Nagy’s scheme.

Signing Ware and pairing him with Mike Davis gives the Bears an opportunity to have an ideal running back combo that can be highly successful in today’s NFL. Ware’s size (5-foot-10, 229 pounds) makes him the type of players that can run between the tackles, but also catch the football.

Throughout his career, Ware has averaged 11.5 yards per reception. While he may not get into the endzone much, he is a reliable guy that can be a valuable situation player. One thing to keep an eye on when it comes to evaluating Ware is his injury history. He missed the entire 2017 season with a knee injury and then and had just two starts in 2018.

If the Bears are interested in adding more competition to their running back room then Ware is certainly an interesting addition. He’ll likely sign a very cheap deal which would require the Bears to pay him three or four-million dollars.
