The value couldn’t be better

Clinton-Dix signed with the Bears on one of Ryan Pace’s infamous “prove-it” deals. It was a 1-year contract for just $3.5 million.

Now, in case you didn’t know, here are some of the other deals handed out to safeties over the course of the offseason:

Eric Weddle: 2-year, $10 million

Earl Thomas: 4-year, $55 million

Tyrann Mathieu: 3-year, $42 million

Adrian Amos: 4-year, $37 million

Landon Collins: 6-year, $84 million

Take another look at that Clinton-Dix signing for $3.5 million. How does it look, now? Pace hit a home run with the value, and there isn’t any way around it.

The 2018 offseason saw the safety market dip quite a bit, with some guys waiting a while to sign. This year, the script has been flipped, with safeties cashing in left and right. For a young guy in his prime like Clinton-Dix, the Bears absolutely nailed the terms of the deal. You can’t get much better than that.
