Cornerback Brent Grimes

Veteran cornerback Brent Grimes has a lot of talent, but he’s caused controversy as a member of two different teams. With the Buccaneers last year, he said he was disrespected by the coaching staff’s request for him to shadow top receivers while being paid so little.

Grimes made a salary of $7 million last year. He argues that he should be paid double that if he’s going to have to follow top receivers wherever they line up.

Grimes’ wife Miko also gets involved in his career, often to the annoyance of his team’s front office. While a member of the Miami Dolphins, Miko Grimes insulted the team’s quarterback Ryan Tannehill on Twitter.

The comments he made more recently about his time with the Buccaneers were part of his wife’s podcast. It’s clearly a pattern that may make Grimes’ efforts to get signed this offseason more difficult.

Grimes may not be worth the headache for the Bears, but if they can offer him a reduced role they can possibly justify not paying him a ridiculous amount.

Grimes is 35-years-old so he shouldn’t expect to earn top dollar. He could work as a nickel corner replacement for the Bears if cornerback Bryce Callahan departs. That is if Grimes is willing to accept those job responsibilities.
