Chicago Bears: Which teams are interested in Jordan Howard?
By Usayd Koshul
With Jordan Howard on his out of the Windy City, what are some teams the Chicago Bears could trade the Pro Bowl running back too?
Over the last few days, Chicago Bears running back Jordan Howard has been the subject of trade talk. This isn’t a surprise. The reasons for this are simple: Howard doesn’t fit into Matt Nagy’s offense and saw a decline in numbers in 2018.
Although he tied his career high in rushing touchdowns with nine, he averaged just 3.7 yards per carry and 58.4 rushing yards per game. To make things worse, Howard only rushed for 100 or more yards in two games all throughout 2018.
It’s clear that some Bears fans don’t want to see Howard leave. His rise to stardom is a remarkable one. He was a fifth-round pick in 2016 who rushed for 2,435 yards in his first two seasons. Under previous Bears head coach John Fox, Howard was a guy who carried the ball at least 20 times a game.
However, in Matt Nagy’s offense, this isn’t the case. At the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis last week, Nagy admitted that running backs need to be able to run between the tackles but also catch the ball. Essentially, this means that running backs need to be dual threat weapons in Matt Nagy’s offense in order to be successful.
The problem with Howard? He’s a guy who can run between the tackles but cannot catch the football. In 2018, he had just 20 receptions for 145 yards. His longest reception of the season was 18 yards.
With it being very clear that Jordan Howard is on his way out in Chicago and the Bears having multiple trade partners on the phone, it’s clear that the Bears are looking to deal Jordan Howard and upgrade the running back position.
To be clear, the Bears are not going to get a first-round pick for Jordan Howard. They could, however, get a day two or day three pick for him. As the NFL offseason continues, what are some potential teams that could decide that trading for Jordan Howard is worth it? .Today, we’ll examine those.
