3. Round Five, 162nd overall: DE Jalen Jelks, Oregon

One of the major problems with the Bears defensive line in 2018 was the fact that the team lacked a consistent starter opposite Akiem Hicks. All throughout the season, it was either Jonathan Bullard, Roy Robertson-Harris, or Bilal Nichols who split time starting.

However, Jalen Jelks could change that. With 30 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks over a four-year period at Oregon, Jelks screams nothing but disruption. The biggest asset that Jelks brings to the table is his quickness. Usually, he’s in the backfield after taking just three or four steps.

Perhaps one of the more underrated parts of Jelks game is his ability to bat passes down at the line of scrimmage. With 11 total throughout his college career, Jelks would consistently keep his eye on the quarterback in passing situations.

While there are some areas of Jelks game that need improvement, to start out in the NFL, he could end up being a fit in a 3-4 defense. Jelks is a who possesses tons of length and plays with a high motor.

As of right now, Jelks weight is a bit of a concern, but if he can add some muscle to his frame, he can fulfill his potential. Jelks is a player who with the right coaching can turn into a solid starter down the road.

Jelks would be an interesting fit on the Bears. He’s got experience playing both defensive lineman and defensive tackle but also possesses everything needed to be an outside linebacker. A regular starter all throughout his time in college, Jelks will only get better playing on one of the best front sevens in the NFL if drafted by the Bears.
