2. Round four, 126th overall: RB Devin Singletary, Florida Atlantic University

If the Bears are looking to add a running back, then this is the NFL Draft to do so. Unlike past years where there have been a few dominant running backs (Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffery, and Leonard Fournette) available at the top of the draft, this year’s draft class features multiple running backs who will be available on day two and three.

Devin Singletary could end up being an electric playmaker in the Bears offense. He’s a patient runner who often ran between the tackles during his college career. Additionally, Singletary knows when to turn the jets on. As soon as he sees the perfect opening, he usually makes a play.

While his 40-yard dash time of 4.66 seconds doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in one, he won’t need to always be running at top speed in the NFL. One major area of his game that will need to see some improvement is his pass protecting skills. There are times where Singletary picks up defenders really well and times where he seems to slack off.

Since Matt Nagy’s offense is one that requires a running back to catch the ball consistently, most probably want to know if Singletary can do that. The answer? Yes, he can. During his three-year career at Florida Atlantic, Singletary caught 51 passes for 397 yards, averaging 7.8 yards per reception. Although the number of passes he caught decreased each year, Singletary showed potential to be a dual-threat weapon at the next level catching the ball.

If it’s an electric playmaker the Bears are looking to add, then Singletary needs to be high on the Bears board. With the right coaching, he’s only going to get better and could be the final piece to the puzzle in what is expected to be an explosive Bears offense in 2019.
