Chicago Bears: Free agent edge rushers to replace Sam Acho
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears decided to part ways with veteran pass rusher Sam Acho. To replace him, Chicago could look at a few free agents.
More and more, the offseason is getting into full swing for the Chicago Bears and the rest of the NFL. Tuesday, we saw the deadline pass for each team’s use of the franchise tag and one familiar name indeed received the tag.
San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould was given the franchise tag, officially eliminating a potential return to Chicago. Always a big fan favorite, the Bears will have to look elsewhere to find their kicking solution.
Speaking of fan favorite, the Bears made a move of their own on Tuesday and cut ties with veteran outside linebacker Sam Acho. For the past four seasons, Acho has been a key component to the Bears’ depth at the pass rusher position. He has also been a consistent contributor on special teams.
Moreover, Acho was always a favorite in the locker room. His character and off-field work for his community were beloved by not only teammates, but the city of Chicago. He will be missed by the organization and fans all over the state of Illinois.
Now, the eyes turn to fellow veteran Aaron Lynch, who could also be let go. If that happens, the Bears will be mighty thin at the position, sparking my suspicion that they’re after a veteran free agent who can come in and be their third guy behind Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd.
Which free agents could the Bears look at? There are several, but here are just a few who could be considered by general manager Ryan Pace.
