Chicago Bulls ownership delivered some pretty disappointing news to fans on Monday.

That collective sigh you hear coming out of the Windy City is the sound of Chicago Bulls fans exasperating in disbelief. After approximately 25 total years of combined futility, John Paxson and Gar Forman will return in 2020!

If you’re waiting for the champagne to pop and the balloons to drop, you might be here for a while. In fact, outside of the Reinsdorf family, there may not be a single person who was excited to hear that news.

And why wouldn’t they? GarPax has walked that fine line that every owner expects of his management team. You know, that balance between putting the cheapest product you can out on the court while still managing to keep revenue at an all-time high. If that were the criteria by which management was measured, these two would win Executive of the Year in perpetuity.

So it should come as no surprise that Michael Reinsdorf ran to the defense of GarPax. In perhaps the most tone-deaf statement in the history of Chicago (and that’s saying something), Reinsdorf stated he “didn’t understand” the fans’ criticism of Paxson and Forman.

In a stunning move, though, Reinsdorf attempted to one-up himself by making it clear that he and his father think the pair “have done a great job” running the team. Comments like that can lead to only one conclusion, and that is that Michael Reinsdorf does not know the meaning of the word ‘great.’ That’s the only logical explanation.

To describe the respective tenures of John Paxson and Gar Forman as great is a slap in the face to Bulls fans who have endured multiple rebuilds, dysfunction, and poor decision making, while still filling the United Center night in and night out. Ownership must take its fans for fools if it thinks it can simply shovel this nonsense down their throats with a straight face.

Bulls fans are some of the most loyal and dedicated in the entire NBA. The fact of that matter is they, and the city of Chicago deserve much better. Unfortunately, it does not appear as though they will get it next season.
