A former first-round pick back in 2015, Shane Ray isn’t likely to return to the Broncos. After notching 12 sacks in his first two seasons, it appeared as if the Broncos had found their complement to Von Miller.

However, over the last two seasons, Ray has notched just two sacks and has been injured. With 2018 first-round pick Bradley Chubb taking over in Denver, the Bears should look heavily into signing Ray.

For the Bears, there are two main reasons as to why Ray makes sense. First, Aaron Lynch is a free agent. With the Bears having far more important players to sign, Lynch could likely be on his way out. This will leave the team bone-dry at outside linebacker depth.

With Leonard Floyd and Khalil Mack being the two main outside linebackers for the Bears, Isaiah Irving and Kylie Fitts aren’t exactly top-tier depth options at outside linebacker.

Second, Ray will likely come at a discount. When the Bears signed Aaron Lynch last offseason, he was signed to a one-year, four-million dollar deal. Considering his injury history, Ray should see a similar contract with no guaranteed money. Structuring a contract where there is no guaranteed money will allow the Bears to move on from Ray if they are not satisfied with his play.
