1) ILB Brandon Marshall

This is a name that was a surprise cut recently. The Broncos opting to move on from veteran Brandon Marshall came as a surprise to many. Over the last five seasons, Marshall has totaled 100 or more tackles three times, while making his presence felt alongside Von Miller.

Now that he’s a free agent, he should have a number of teams lining up for his services. There are a few reasons as to why Marshall will likely find work quickly.

First, he’s a highly productive and smart football player. He always seems to know where the ball is and gets after it. Second, he gives his best effort on every play. He’s a player that you can rely on to consistently help make plays.

Now, where exactly would Marshall fit with the Bears? He isn’t going to be a starter due to the presence of Danny Trevathan and Roquan Smith, but he could serve as an upgrade in terms of depth.

Currently, behind Trevathan and Smith, the Bears have Nick Kwiatkoski and Joel Iyiegbuniwe. If the Bears decide to move on from Kwiatkoski this offseason, they’d save a total of two million dollars in cap space, with just $143,780 leftover money in dead cap.

While one would think that a player of Marshall’s caliber is someone the Bears cannot afford, however, Marshall saw limited action in 2018, playing in just 11 games with seven starts. In fact, two of the last three seasons, he’s been injured, which will drive down his price tag dramatically.

While most would argue that inside linebacker isn’t a need for the Bears, if Ryan Pace is looking to add more depth to the roster, then pursuing Marshall if the price is right makes all the sense in the world.
