Chicago Bears: 2019 NFL Draft prospects to replace Cody Parkey
By Ryan Heckman
Austin Seibert, Senior, Oklahoma
One of the intriguing prospects in this year’s kicking class comes from close by Halas Hall. Senior Austin Seibert out of the University of Oklahoma is originally from Belleville, IL and coming to the Bears would essentially bring him home.
First of all, for those unfamiliar with this year’s prospects, I will mention that Seibert is no where near the cleanest of them. He hasn’t been perfect, but he has the potential to be a serviceable kicker in the NFL.
An interesting part of his story has to be the fact that on top of being the kicker for the Sooners over the last four years, Seibert has also been the team’s punter. It’s not very often you see a guy who can do both aspects of the kicking game and do them well.
Over his four-year collegiate career, Seibert has connected on 25-of-27 field goals inside of 30 yards. He’s been nearly automatic from that range. The question marks start to come, however, when he gets outside of that yardage.
From 30-to-39 yards, Seibert was 28-of-34 in four seasons. Anything 40 yards and above? Seibert went 10-of-18. That’s not excellent by any means, but he very likely could end up being an undrafted free agent pickup for Chicago — at that point, he’s well-worth signing.
