1. Eloy Jimenez, OF

Not only is future White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez the top prospect in their organization, but he is also one of the best prospects in all of baseball. He was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the best outfield prospect in all of baseball and the number three prospect overall. The league sees him as a guy with a ceiling as high as the sky, while the White Sox hope he will be one of the future elite players in the game.

More from Da Windy City

There was some chatter late in the week and into the weekend about a quote from White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech. He has been telling some people that Jimenez is the next Babe Ruth. That is some pretty high praise for a guy who has yet to step on a Major League diamond. Ruth hit 714 home runs and had 2,213 runs batted in so to make that type of claim is incredibly high praise. Now he likely won’t have the career of the Great Bambino, but he could certainly be a multiple time all-star, perennial MVP candidate and possible Hall of Fame player.

In 2018 he had an amazing year split between AAA and AA ball. AAA is where he impressed the most because he took what he was doing in AA and brought it with him to a much harder league. In 55 games he had a .355 batting average and a .996 OPS. If he can translate a large chunk of that success into the majors without much adjustment, he will already be one of the best players on his team.

The goal, of course, is to eventually win the World Series with this new young core but Eloy has already made the claim that he wants to win rookie of the year in 2019. There is no reason to believe he can’t do it. He is smart, he is talented and he is confident. The team and its fans should be very excited about what is to come for Eloy. He very well could make the club out of spring training but they could also wait the two weeks to secure an extra year of control. He will, however, play Major League Baseball this season.
