Chicago Bears: Risky free agents that could pay off
By Ryan Heckman
Cornerback Jason Verrett
Talk about a sad story. My goodness. That’s Jason Verrett‘s last few years.
Last summer, Verrett tore his achilles before the season even started, meaning he would miss the entire year. His 2017 season lasted only one game, before he was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury.
In 2016, Verrett played in just four games before tearing his ACL and missing the rest of the season.
His rookie year back in 2014 saw him play just six games due to a torn labrum and rotator cuff.
That one year in between all the madness? It featured a Pro Bowl nod, seeing Verrett notch 12 passes defensed, three picks and a defensive score in 14 games.
Any team adding Verrett would be taking an enormous risk. But, again, at the right price, he’s at least worth bringing to training camp. It’s clear Verrett was a great player when healthy. But, like the rest of these guys, good health has not come easy.
The Bears’ starters are locked down in Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara, but a healthy Verrett would provide solid depth as the Bears look to make a Super Bowl run.
