Chicago Bears: Risky free agents that could pay off
By Ryan Heckman
The 2019 NFL free agency period begins next month. There are some risky names available who just might pay off for the Chicago Bears.
For the Chicago Bears and their fans, the 2019 season began back at Soldier Field on January 6th after a devastating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Sure, we let it sting for a while, but most fans would be lying if they said they weren’t already looking forward to September immediately following the game.
The first step towards the 2019 season has already begun, in part: Getting deals done with current players while making decisions on who they could cut. The Bears already gave right tackle Bobby Massie a new contract, ensuring both ends of their offensive line are locked down.
Come mid-March, it gets real interesting. The new league year begins at 4PM ET on March 13th. Free agency, like every year, will be an exciting time in the NFL.
This year, however, won’t be as exciting for these Bears. General manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy already did most of the heavy lifting in 2018, giving the franchise a true facelift. This year, the most important decisions will come in-house.
What do the Bears do with their kicking situation? Do they end up parting ways with Cody Parkey?
What happens in the secondary? Do they have to choose between Adrian Amos and Bryce Callahan? The Bears have some important decisions to make with their own free agents, which will give us all a better idea of where Pace could go in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Come March, most eyes will be on the bigger names. For the Bears, they might end up having to go after some cheaper guys — maybe even some of which come at a risk. But, as we know, Pace is a risk-taker. Now, which free agents in this category could the Bears look at? Let’s go over some options.
