Chicago Bears: 5 trades to flip offseason on its head
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears will likely have a much quieter offseason in 2019 than they did last year. We look at five trades which could change that.
The last time the Chicago Bears made a trade, it was arguably the biggest trade the NFL had seen in years. General manager Ryan Pace went out and sent two first-round picks to the Oakland Raiders, bringing in stud pass rusher Khalil Mack.
Pace had to face the flames from some experts and outlets who called the move a total sacrifice of the Bears’ future. Some said Mack wasn’t worth everything the Bears gave up. In the end, Mack ended up transforming the Bears defense into the top unit in all of football.
One player really can make all the difference, if it’s the right player. Mack’s sheer talent took the other 10 guys around him and elevated their play on every single snap. Could the Bears execute another trade this offseason?
The Bears don’t have a lot of draft capital for this year, therefore an attempt to acquire more would make a lot of sense. But, what about acquiring another player? If this offseason is indeed going to feature an active trade market, what could that mean for the Bears?
The team is a bit strapped for cash this offseason, compared to last year. Considering they will likely take a hit on releasing Cody Parkey, and that they have to decide on the futures of Adrian Amos and Bryce Callahan, Pace has his work cut out for him.
Let’s look at a few potential trades, just for the heck of it. Now, I don’t believe all of these trades will happen, necessarily, but it is definitely a fun conversation to have. Let’s dive right in.
