Chicago Bears: Pre-NFL Combine mock draft
Jordan Brown, CB – South Dakota State University
The Bears earned themselves an extra pick in the seventh round by virtue of the Deiondre’ Hall trade to the Philadelphia Eagles. The irony would be for the Bears to select a kicker with the pick they got from the team they lost to because of their own awful kicker. But we’re not here to be ironic.
So with their final selection of the draft, the Bears get Bryce Callahan’s eventual replacement in South Dakota State’s Jordan Brown. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing in at 199 pounds, Brown would be a steal in the seventh round.
The third-team FCS All-American started off his college career as a wide receiver and initially split time between that position and cornerback. So he brings a unique perspective to the position. He continued to develop his cornerback skills culminating in a fine senior season in which he finished with three interceptions and 12 pass breakups.
The upside to drafting a guy like Brown is that not only does he have the fluidity and quickness to play the slot corner position, but he has the size to play on the boundary — even with bigger wide receivers. Essentially, getting a guy like Brown gives the team quality depth at multiple positions. Again, if you can get that in the seventh round, that would be a tremendous feat for Ryan Pace and the Bears.
