In light of some recent NFL news, the Chicago Bears and their fans should be even more thankful to have number 10 on their side for a long time.

There was a pretty big trade in the NFL on Wednesday. The Baltimore Ravens traded former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos. It is proof that being a good quarterback in the NFL is not easy and not many have the luxury of having one they can rely on every week. The Chicago Bears seem to finally have that in Mitchell Trubisky.

Now, Flacco went from Super Bowl MVP to tradable asset but that doesn’t take away the achievements he has had. A Super Bowl Champion and MVP is something fans can only hope Trubisky can attain. The thing that is exciting, however, is the possibility of Trubisky leading the Bears for many years to come. As a whole, their window to win seems to be just opening and it will be a while before it closes.

The Broncos were saved a bit by Peyton Manning being pushed out of the back door by the Indianapolis Colts in favor of Andrew Luck. Manning allowed them to take advantage of having an elite defense and that led to two Super Bowl appearances, winning one of them. Since his retirement, they have not had much luck drafting at the position and now they appear to hope Flacco is a bandaid for the immediate future there.

The Ravens let Flacco go in favor of Lamar Jackson. Jackson wasn’t very good in most of their one playoff game and some believed that Flacco should have come in the game in relief, late in the game. That did not happen, and they were sent packing.

That is why it is nice for the Bears to have a guy that they hope will be under center for a decade. In 2018 Trubisky completed 66 percent of his passes and had 24 touchdowns on the season. He also had the third-best QBR in the entire NFL which is something to be very excited about as well. This was all in season one as a starter. Not only did he improve in the passing game, but he can use his legs to move the chains.

Everyone knows that the true strength of this Bears team is its defense. And how could that not be said, they were the best in the NFL in most people’s estimations and it looks like it will remain that way for a long time. The thing is, you need a quarterback who can take care of the football and allow your defense to stay fresh. The best defense in history would give up some points if they spent most of the game on the field. Mitch has provided that for the most part to start his career.

He played well enough to earn a Pro Bowl nod, replacing Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff so he could prepare to play in Super Bowl LIII. To be recognized with the best at the position in the world in his first full year as a starter is certainly something to be proud of and something to be excited about.

Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL so he will have to keep getting better if he wants to keep playing at a high level, but it is nice to see the Bears have what they think will be a franchise guy. So far so good. If he gets better and the offense continues to score more points, that could be a lethal combination with this elite defense. It is a great time to be a fan of the Bears.
