Chicago Bears: 10 bold predictions for 2019 NFL free agency
By Ryan Heckman
5. Bears do not re-sign Adrian Amos
This is where it gets really difficult for some fans. Yet, at the same time, other Bears fans wouldn’t bat an eye.
I’ll just come right out and say it: The Bears will not bring back safety Adrian Amos.
But, why?
Here’s the thing: Amos has been a Pro Football Focus darling over his career. They love the guy — and I do too. Don’t get me wrong.
However, if he’s out there seeking the money which reflects his PFF grades, he’s going to be disappointed by the Bears.
Look at the contract just signed by Eric Reid of the Carolina Panthers, for example. Reid signed a 3-year deal worth over $22 million — that’s over $7 million on an annual average. The Bears aren’t going to fork over that kind of money for Amos — not in a million years.
The Bears don’t have a ton of money to work with, and many outlets have already written about how Pace must be “thrifty” this offseason (h/t The Athletic). If Pace is going to watch his pennies, he’s not about to pay Amos big money.
It’s been real, Adrian. Best of luck elsewhere next season.
