Chicago Bears: Trey Burton makes a Super Bowl promise
By Usayd Koshul
After the way the Chicago Bears 2018 season ended, many wondered when this team would reach the Super Bowl. Turns out Tight End Trey Burton has an answer.
Seriously, let’s face the facts. The last time the Chicago Bears won a Super Bowl was in 1985. It’s been 34 years since that happened. The last time the Bears even played in one? In February 2007, but they lost to the Indianapolis Colts.
Everyone knows the NFL is always better when the Bears win. And while the 2018 season didn’t end the way anyone wanted it to, Matt Nagy and the Bears are more motivated than ever to prove the entire world wrong next season.
Tight End Trey Burton, however, appears as if he is ready to lead the charge. This past Sunday, while the Super Bowl was going on, Burton was present. Although he wasn’t playing in the game, he was doing analysis from the sideline.
Most Bears fans don’t seem to know Burton’s story. He was originally a quarterback at the University of Florida but played multiple positions such as tight end, fullback, and wide receiver. He would end up going undrafted and would sign with the Philadelphia Eagles as a fourth-string tight end. From there, he would continue his rise to the top of the depth chart, eventually being the Eagles second-string tight end behind Zach Ertz.
Burton knows what the NFL is all about: Hard Work. He’s worked his whole life to get to where he is today. More importantly, Burton won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2017. He knows what it takes to reach the Super Bowl and knows the importance of winning it too. Hoist a Lombardi Trophy and you’ll forever be immortalized amongst the greatest teams in NFL history.
I know what you’re thinking after reading the caption in Burton’s Instagram post above. “But he doesn’t directly say that he promises the Bears are going to make the Super Bowl next year”.
And while that’s true, he seems to promise it indirectly by saying “Can’t wait to play in it next year.”
The reality here is this: Burton is saying that the Bears have everything needed to be representing the NFC in Miami on February 2nd, 2020.
The team features a dominant defense that is full of star power in players like Khalil Mack, Roquan Smith, Eddie Jackson, and Akiem Hicks. With every main starter of the Bears defense expected to return in 2019, it’s clear that this is a group that is going to be even better in 2019.
Then there’s the offense, led by Mitchell Trubisky. While Trubisky had his ups and downs in year two, he improved as the season went on. And in year three, he’ll look to take a major step forward in his development and become a true franchise quarterback.
So will the Bears be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl next season? Who knows. But one thing is certain: Trey Burton seems to have indirectly promised that the Bears are going to be doing so.
