4. Sign Connor Barwin

There are multiple reasons as to why the Bears should look into signing a veteran like Connor Barwin

As of right now, outside linebacker isn’t the biggest need for the Bears, however, it could become one within the blink of an eye. If the Bears cannot retain Aaron Lynch, then the team will be left with only Isaiah Irving and Kylie Fitts as the primary outside linebackers behind Leonard Floyd and Khalil Mack.

First, Barwin is 32 years old and is set to be a free agent. He’s going to be relatively cheap to sign and would be available in the second wave of free agency. Since he’s in the twilight years of his career, the Bears could sign him to a one or two year deal worth two million dollars.

Second, Barwin has been a highly productive player wherever he’s gone. He’s got 56.5 career sacks meaning he’s essentially an upgrade over what Aaron Lynch provides. While Lynch is younger, Barwin brings more veteran experience which is critical as he can help Isaiah Irving and Kylie Fitts.

Signing a guy like Connor Barwin seems like a move that could turn out to be a major game-changer for the Bears. Barwin would provide depth, but also quality situational play when the Bears need him to. For a veteran who’s looking for one last chance at a Super Bowl ring, Barwin has a chance to win one if the Bears decide that he is worth bringing in.
