He’s emphasized, very quickly, that this is his team and he will be getting “his” guys.
Gruden has made it apparent that he isn’t shying away from his old-school ways. Thus, he added veteran Doug Martin to the mix last year, to go along with Marshawn Lynch. Neither of these guys have much left in the tank going forward, and if Gruden can get himself a similar power back like Howard, I’m sure he’d be intrigued.
The Raiders have a lot of holes to fill going forward, obviously starting with their defense. It is going to take some time, but dealing for a young running back who has proven he can shoulder the load would be a great start.
If Gruden truly believes in and sticks with Derek Carr at quarterback, they’ve got two important positions in place going into the future. That is, assuming Carr doesn’t end up getting hurt in some bizarre UFC fight.
