Guard Nate Davis, Charlotte

You know Pace is looking at someone like Nate Davis out of Charlotte. Come on, everyone knows who the big-name players are at this point. It is Pace who is doing his homework on potential NFL talent coming out of the small schools, and Bears fans love it.

Davis has played both guard and tackle in the past, but he’ll likely be best suited on the inside at the NFL level. He has big-time power in his hands, being able to grip ahold of defensive linemen while keeping them in front, limiting his holds.

He will have to improve his footwork in pass protection, as he can trip a little when narrowing his stance. Fortunately, the Bears should be set at their starting guards and Davis will have a chance to develop a bit. He would be a depth add at this point, but it’s not out of the realm of possibilities for him to earn a starting role down the road.

For a young player, one thing Davis does well is react to an overload without panicking. He’s intelligent enough to understand where to turn when the defense sends extra men on a blitz, which is a huge strength for a team like the Bears, who run a lot of misdirection in the backfield.

The Bears have their work cut out for them this year, especially not possessing a pick within the first two rounds. But, if anyone can get it done while analyzing even the least-known guys like Davis, it is Pace.
