Chicago Bears: 5 NFL Draft prospects to watch at Senior Bowl
By Ryan Heckman
Running Back Dexter Williams, Notre Dame
Dexter Williams is a player who could benefit immensely from a strong showing at the Senior Bowl. He’s regarded as a running back who doesn’t do one thing really well, but his vision and patience as a runner is what makes him an intriguing back.
He’s fantastic between the tackles when given decent blocking, but doesn’t possess the top-end speed you’d like to see in a stud running back. Fortunately for the Bears, that’s not necessarily what they need.
If they indeed decide to trade Jordan Howard, they will need a replacement. Even if they don’t, I think upgrading from Taquan Mizzell would be a great move. Williams is a kid who could be a bargain in the mid-rounds, especially due to his off-the-field issues.
Williams had an arrest back in 2016 for possession of marijuana, as well as having a handgun with no license. To begin 2018, he was suspended four games for an unnamed violation of team rules.
The silver lining, there, is the fact that Williams still ended the 2018 season with 995 yards on 158 carries and 12 touchdowns. Averaging 6.3 yards per carry on that number of totes is nothing to scoff at.
