Chicago Bulls: Potential trade packages for Marc Gasol
By Ryan Heckman
Trade Package No. 2
If the Grizzlies are worried about salvaging their pick in the more recent drafts, they’ll have to sacrifice a future pick. I don’t see how they get rid of Gasol’s deal and not give up something else. In this case, the Bulls would send not only Portis, but swingman Denzel Valentine over to the Grizzlies as well.
The Bulls would get a first-round selection a few years down the road, and this time it would be unprotected. Chicago would hand over a future second-rounder as well.
One of the biggest reasons why having Gasol around, even if only for a season, would be beneficial is so that he could mentor the young guys on this roster. With raw, talented kids like Markkanen and Carter, Gasol would be able to have a huge impression.
Gasol has been one of the best all-around centers in the league for years now, and passing along some of his knowledge and skills to the youth in Chicago would be of great value. Of course, it only makes sense if the Bulls can land a future asset in return, thus the first-round pick once again.
It isn’t too likely the Bulls jump at a contract like Gasol’s (over $24 million this year), but knowing he would probably opt out this summer, it would be worth a shot in order to get something significant in return.
