No. 1: Send Kris Dunn to Dallas for Dennis Smith Jr.

The Mavericks are a bit closer to contention than the Bulls. In fact, Dallas could still make the playoffs out west.

Now, in order to make that happen, the void left by Smith must not go unfilled. Especially after J.J. Barea‘s season-ending injury, the Mavericks absolutely need a point guard.

That man is Kris Dunn. A fellow former sixth overall pick, Dunn would be a great fit to headline the deal. Injuries have kept Dunn off the court at times this season, but when he’s fully healthy, he’s a tenacious, defense-first point guard with innate passing ability.

That defense is exactly what makes Dunn the perfect fit. Doncic is a horrid defender, and by adding a plus defender in Dunn, the Mavericks gain much more on the court than what would be lost.

Furthermore, Chandler Hutchison would be the second piece of the deal. A 2018 first rounder, Hutchison has struggled to find traction in the NBA in his rookie season. Hutchison has great 3-and-D potential, and would fit the Mavs as a good complement to Doncic off the bench.

Finally, some sort of first round pick would probably be essential for a deal to happen. While the Bulls expect to pick high for the next two seasons, they likely wouldn’t want to give up a first rounder in either of the next two seasons. A first round pick is probably what makes the deal happen, so there must be one in there, hence why the Bulls are giving up their 2021 first round pick.
