Throughout the past week, trade rumors surrounding Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr have been circulating. Could the Chicago Bulls make a run?

The Chicago Bulls making a buying move? What?

Well, this one could be especially suited for them, considering the situation.

Due in part to the emergence of superstar rookie Luka Doncic, the Dallas Mavericks are reportedly looking to trade second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr.

Smith Jr was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, and had a good rookie season last season. Smith hasn’t played in the Mavs past six games with a “back injury”, when in reality, Smith has sat out due to his inability to play with Doncic.

Both players are ball-dominant scorers who need the ball in their hands to succeed. Considering how well Doncic has played this season, Smith is the odd man out by default. The loss of Smith would likely work out to be Dallas’ gain, but Smith has that “it” factor about him, so his new team would be getting one heck of a player.

Enter the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls are well out of the playoff race, but Smith isn’t a rental. He’s got two years remaining on his rookie contract, and would be a great addition for the 2020 and 2021 Bulls teams. Not to mention, his youth and potential stardom alongside Zach LaVine, paired with Lauri Markkanen, make for an attractive free agent destination.
