Chicago Bears: Possible replacements for Cody Parkey in 2019
By Ryan Heckman
Robbie Gould
Wouldn’t this be something?
“Good as Gould” being chanted at Soldier Field once again — now that would bring a smile to most Bears fans’ faces. The once-cut veteran has done an incredible job since his exit from Chicago, but maybe that’s what he needed once upon a time.
Robbie Gould missed some big kicks for the Bears in his last season with Chicago, but he went on to be one of the best in the business once again after he found himself with the New York Giants, and ultimately the San Francisco 49ers.
As a Giant, Gould went 10-for-10 on field goals before getting hurt. As a 49er, Gould went 72-for-75. The last three seasons have statistically been the best of his career.
All he needed was a little shove out of Chicago, I suppose.
Gould should command some decent money this offseason as well, especially with how kickers fared this season. The 36-year-old still has plenty of football left, and I’m sure he would be welcomed back on the Bears with open arms.
With the 49ers returning Jimmy Garoppolo next season, and looking to build on some momentum they built down the stretch of 2018, I would bet they’d try and bring Gould back. But, they will have some competition. Let’s hope one of those teams is the Bears.
