The Chicago White Sox are all-in in free agent Bryce Harper. Them and one other team are set to guarantee the slugger a big-time deal.
The Bryce Harper saga rolls on. The stove is so hot it might just explode. Fans of the Chicago White Sox continue to scour the internet for news of a potential deal with the free agent superstar, and this morning, they got closer to their wish.
Are you ready?
The White Sox are now one of two teams that will guarantee Harper a decade-long deal if he chooses to sign with their club. ESPN’s Jeff Passan was the first to break the story on Wednesday morning.
It has been quite the ride since late last season. White Sox fans have seen plenty of subtle hints, coincidences or not, that have given them more and more hope when it comes to landing Harper.
Then, it was the once-posted and since-deleted photo of the United Center on social media. That photo depicted a White Sox logo and the message “Bryce Harper 34” across an electronic banner.
From there on out, it was regular reports that the White Sox were a growing favorite to land Harper. It was mostly due to the fact that the Sox can afford him, while other teams in the mix may need to make moves before they sign Harper.
Most notably, Jim Bowden made it pretty clear that he thought the White Sox were the front-runners while making an appearance on CBS Sports HQ a few weeks back.
As I said, the stove isn’t blistering — it’s nearing an explosion. Many people feel as though Harper wouldn’t want to sign with the White Sox, but I can definitely see reasons for the opposite happening.
The Sox have a fantastic minors program, with a few guys who look like they will be studs in the coming years. Of course, Kopech’s return to health will be a big part of that.
For now, we will continue to wait on more news regarding Harper. When it comes, you can bet that we will have it covered. Keep checking back regularly, and you never know, one of the next Sox headlines could read, “Chicago White Sox make splash by landing Bryce Harper.”
