Chicago White Sox: Bold Predictions for Winter Meetings
Bold Prediction Number Three: The Chicago White Sox sign Bryce Harper
It has been rumored all offseason. The Chicago White Sox interest in Bryce Harper is no secret, but nothing has seemed close.
However, I think that the White Sox have as real of a shot as anyone.
First, the White Sox have the ability to outbid just about any other team. They have little long term commitments, and have clear interest in Harper. If Harper is chasing the money, and the White Sox really want him, they’ll have no problem bringing him to the South Side.
Additionally, the White Sox have been making a real effort to convince Bryce to sign. A picture surfaced from the United Center back in November of what looked like a pitch to Harper, and the White Sox reportedly sent Jim Thome to Las Vegas this past week to meet with Harper, and to recruit him.
Finally, every championship team needs a superstar. Sure, the White Sox have that guy somewhere in the farm system, but why not bring him to the team now? Harper is just about as good as it gets, and by signing him, the White Sox will set their rebuild ahead by at least a year.
Many reports have surfaced that the White Sox are among the finalists for Harper. They have the money, interest, and resources to sign Harper. I’ve got a good feeling about this one, and that’s why I think that during the Winter Meetings, the White Sox will sign Harper to a 10-year, $395-m
illion deal.
The biggest free agent signing in both team history and MLB history. Now that is how you make a splash at the Winter Meetings.
